ADMISSIONS

Thank you for your interest in Carden School of Fresno. We have been helping children grow into mature, successful young adults since 1963. Our program is based on the Carden educational philosophy that strives to educate the whole child.

Families may drop by CSOF at any time during the year to obtain information about the school. However, in order to ensure that someone will be available to give interested parents a full tour of the school, we encourage parents to call ahead and make an appointment.

EVALUATION

Carden School of Fresno admits students regardless of race, religion, and national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students at school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, or national and ethnic origin in admissions, hiring, administration of its educational policies, and athletic or other school administered programs.

All prospective students are assessed to determine appropriate placement. A fee is charged for the evaluation. Parents will be notified of acceptance based on assessment results and related information. Students transferring from another Carden School may be admitted based on the recommendation of their previous teacher or administrator.

Students entering our four-year-old program must be four years old by September 1. Students qualify for Kindergarten if they are 5 years old by September 1. Students entering later grades should be the corresponding age to the grade level. Placement is ultimately decided by the administration. It is not recommended that a new student enroll in our 8th grade program unless approved by administration and staff.

Continuing students are reviewed at the end of each school year. Students must demonstrate the ability to complete their education by maintaining, as a minimum, average grades and demonstrating consistent effort and satisfactory conduct.

Every child applying for admission to Carden School of Fresno must complete an admission evaluation. For preschool and kindergarten children, this evaluation is geared toward determining the child’s readiness to spend a half to full day in a classroom program. For children in first through eighth grades, the assessment is specific to evaluating whether the child will be successful in a demanding academic program. The assessment must be scheduled with the school. Before the assessment of each child, parents must fill out an application and pay the $75 evaluation fee.

CLASSROOM VISITATION

Prior to admission, we encourage children in first through eighth grades to spend a half- or full-day in the classroom they would join upon admission.

OFFER OF ADMISSION

Once the admission process is completed, the administration will make a determination about admission and communicate with the parents the status of their child’s admission. Admission may be offered immediately and the child encouraged to join the class in the current year, admission may be offered immediately for the following school year, or admission offers may be held until April, the traditional time for the extension of admission offers.

If the grade level for which your child has been evaluated is full, your child will be placed on a waiting list for that grade level. The waiting list will be prioritized in order of applications received for that grade.
